You can charge at home
Daily plugging in is what turns the 35-mile electric range into real fuel savings. Drivers with a garage or driveway outlet benefit most.
The 2026 Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid (T8 AWD) is built for drivers who mix short local trips with longer travel. It covers up to 35 miles on electricity alone (EPA estimate), then runs as a gas-electric hybrid rated at 28 mpg combined, for up to 560 miles of total range. A full charge takes about five hours on a Level 2 home or public charger. It is a different vehicle from the gas (mild hybrid) XC60, which cannot be plugged in.
Charge it at home, drive locally on electricity, and let the gas engine take over when you travel farther.
The XC60 plug-in hybrid pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an 18.8 kWh battery. Volvo rates the combined output at 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque, with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
On a full charge, the EPA estimates up to 35 miles of fully electric driving, which can cover many errands and local commutes without using gasoline. When the battery is depleted, or when you need extra power, the XC60 operates as a hybrid rated at 28 mpg combined. With a full tank and a full charge, the EPA estimates up to 560 miles of total range, so long trips do not depend on finding a charger.

The XC60 plug-in hybrid rewards drivers who plug in regularly.
Short trips: If your typical day stays within the rated electric range, overnight charging lets you handle it mostly on electricity. Volvo estimates that the average driver of the XC60 plug-in hybrid would use up to 315 fewer gallons of petroleum per year than a comparable XC60 B5 AWD mild hybrid.
Longer travel: For a trip to Cape Cod, the Berkshires, or out of state, the gas engine and 18.8-gallon tank provide the range, and there is no need to stop for charging.
Cold weather: Volvo notes that real-world electric range depends on driving conditions and temperature, so expect fewer electric miles in winter. Volvo lists an electric passenger compartment heater and cooler among the XC60 plug-in hybrid’s climate features, and preconditioning the cabin while plugged in helps preserve battery range for driving.
How to charge: The included 22.9-foot portable charger works with 120V and 240V outlets. For a full charge in about five hours, a 240V Level 2 home charger is the practical choice. Plug-in hybrids use AC charging; see our guide to charging your Volvo at home.
