2026 Volvo XC40 vs 2026 Volvo XC60

Serving Plymouth, MA

The 2026 XC40 and the XC60 are among the smaller crossover SUVs in Volvo's lineup, so they are frequently compared to each other. Both models introduce a few updates this year. Before selecting your next Volvo, a closer look at all the latest XC40 and XC60 models is needed.

Performance

Every 2026 XC40 has a 2.0-liter turbo, four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed transmission. The entry-level engine option in the Core and Plus trims offers 194 horsepower and front-wheel drive. The other trim levels have all-wheel drive and an upgraded powertrain that produces 247 horsepower.

The XC60's base engine is the same 247-horsepower unit that is the XC40's higher trim levels. The XC60's higher trim levels have a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This plug-in hybrid system allows you to enjoy 455 horsepower and a 35-mile all-electric range.

Appearance

The XC40 and XC60 have strong family bonds from a design perspective, but are easily differentiated. The smaller XC40 has a modified Thor's hammer LED headlight with a curved sidebar. The lower air vents have a Y-style shape. The XC40's rectangular grille has rounded corners and the classic Volvo sash. There is thick molding along the lower door panels and below-the-belt definition on the sides.

The XC60 has stronger curvature through the hood and a comparable grille design. Its Thor's hammer headlights are broader and shorter, and the large air vents have a triangular quality. The sides are mold-free and have the exact linear definition on the door panels.

Features

If you opt for the 2026 XC40, your SUV may come with a Harman Kardon sound system, leather upholstery, Pilot Assist, a surround-view camera system, a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier, a digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connections, a Google-based infotainment system, a wireless charging pad, forward collision mitigation, and more.

The XC60 has many of these same features. It is also available with an 11.2-inch infotainment system screen, a crystal shifter knob, auto-dimming mirrors, auto reverse braking, a cabin air purifier, sport seats, a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, and a few additional features.
